Consumerism and the desire for collecting objects is inevitably embedded into our material culture. It has become remarkably difficult for people to see beyond the price tag, to realize the detrimental consequences our planet is suffering from due to our constant need

for new items.

 

All this “stuff” we consume and collect eventually ends up in landfills, whether we are conscious of it or not. It has become our responsibility to determine what we do with our clothing once we no longer want to keep them, how we choose to dispose of them or to understand how we can extend its lifetime.

 

As an initiative to promote fashion sustainability, SWAP: Shop With a Purpose is a platform dedicated towards redefining the clothing swap system as an alternative method to consumption. Ultimately, the platform

opens up a space for individuals to think critically about our relationships with clothing, that would question

how attaching a face, a name and a story to an article

of clothing has the potential to change the way we

value a second-hand item, and to find a new sense

of appreciation for clothing items that have

been passed along.
